Study visit regarding socio-medical services in the area of Belluno, Italy

On March 2012 Romanian Prader Willi Association and IDAS Group jointly organized a study visit in Belluno region of northern Italy to learn more about the organization and financing of socio-medical services in this part of Europe.

Study visit involved the participation of representatives of the two institutions, local authorities from Zalau (Vice-mayor Mrs. Daniela Cota, Director Mrs. Mariana Cuibuș, Ms. Mihaela Avram - DASC) and DSP representative (Director Mrs. Dr. Ligia Marincaş).
From the Italian partners were present: IPWSO - International Prader Willi Syndrome Organization, represented by Mr. Giorgio Fornasier - Executive Director and Mr. Angelo Paganini - President of Conferenza dei Sindaci dell 'ULSS di Belluno, Comitato d'Intesa.
The first day we visited seven socio-medical units: day care centers, occupational and therapy centers, social cooperatives and the volunteer center.
The next morning we visited a day center for people with mental disabilities and a group home.
Afternoon a debate was organized, about how this region has managed to combine the funding of medical social services from: local, regional and national resources, supplemented by funding from the health system, using the principle of solidarity.
Romanian delegation presented the existing social and health services in Zalău and how the authorities are involved in funding these services. It has been discussed the visit in Zalău of the Italian partners this autumn, and after that we have established common priorities and the legal framework for partnership projects.
The evening ended with a concert given by the Italian tenor Giorgio Fornasier.
